Ping Pong Playa is directed by Jessica Yu and is written by her and Jimmy Tsai. It's a comedy and it has been doing the rounds on the festival circuit. I've watched the trailer and seen a few clips and it's looking really good.

The Curious Twenty Minutes Of Benjamin Button.
Kim Voynar from the mighty Cinematical has seen a chunk of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.
"The 20 or so minutes of Benjamin Button, on the other hand, gave an idea of what the film will be, but wasn't so compelling that it energized the room. That said, though, I have considerable faith in Fincher's talent as a director

Simon Pegg Video Diary
Simon Pegg is starting to become renowned not only for with his partnership with Edgar Wright, or his chemistry with Nick Frost, but for his behind the scenes video diaries.
This one below is for his new one, How To Lose Friends and Alienate People.
I'm not loving this film to be honest, but it looks like they had a lot of fun putting it together.

Look what I found.
Kate Winslet is set to star in a new film about John Lennon. No, she's not playing Lennon I'm Not There style.

Wall·E: Another View. Advertising, Colour And Banter
After watching the cutie little robo-nerd I thought it was intelligent on a number of levels. The messages it tackled were fantastic, yet some things played on my mind. Much pondering was had.The result of this pondering lead me to boring a few friends about the devilishly sophisticated modern advertising techniques that are included.

Frank Miller's The Spirit - THE FIRST REVIEW
Below are snippets of what looks like being the first review (that I'm aware of) for Frank Miller's The Spirit. The full review from VoicesOffCamera can be seen on that garish film gossip behemoth. Have a pinch of salt handy.Aaron Sorkin & The Facebook Movie
Well, the big game is about to start. Liverpool vs Standard Liege. Must win. I think it's gonna be a 3-0 beating. But I digress....Aaron "The West Wing" Sorkin is writing a film for Sony about facebook. Hmmm. I can believe it I guess. But as a way of researching, Sorkin has joined facebook, and also set up a group.

Choke Clip

I am off to watch R.E.M in concert (and I'm not much of a fan).
In no relation whatsoever, here is a tiny clip from Choke, an upcoming black comedy directed by Clark Gregg and adapted from Chuck Palahniuk's novel. The film is scheduled to be released end of September. Cheers to Gus for sending this my way.
RocknRolla Titles
Guy Ritchie is a one trick pony. His latest RocknRolla is getting decent reviews so I will see it.I absolutely loved the titles from Prologue. Enjoy.
New York, I Love You. Newport, I Hate You
Check this out -

Cher. Catwoman. Caped Crusader
One reputable UK newspaper and one not so are reporting that the next Batman film (The Caped Crusader) will start production next year. Johnny Depp is very likely to play The Riddler and Christopher Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman is Cher. She will play it with as a old vamp apparently and will be nothing like any other Catwomen.

An Apology From The WB President

Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009.
Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability.

Somers Town Snippet
The second reason why I love LOVEFiLM is they sometimes host a number of interviews and exclusive clips. This is a prime example. I have always been a massive fan of Shane Meadows' work. I remember seeing Small Time when I was at school, and I've followed his work ever since.
Burn After Reading Bonanza
I woke up this morning and read a lot about the Watchmen legal saga. Some of the bits and pieces I've read need burning let me tell you ... I'll collate everything and give it to you people a bit later...
Never mind that for now, Burn After Reading is the opener for the Venice Film Festival next week. It's the premiere for the Coens' latest, and I hope to provide you with all the news and goss from the event.

Australia Posters - Three Of 'Em

I'm liking these three new posters promoting Baz Luhrmann's new flick. I found them here.
They suggest a feeling in the same vain as Gone With The Wind. Especially the first one above. What are Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman running away from in the other two below ?

JustPressPlay is where I found this gem.

You might have heard of the Hitchcock/Truffaut book, a remarkable book-length interview where François Truffaut interviewed Alfred.

Below are two one-sheet posters for the Saw V blood drive. In this fifth installment of the franchise, Hoffman is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy. But when his secret is threatened, Hoffman must go on the hunt to eliminate all loose ends.
Tony Stark In Foursome Sex Tape Shock !!
Well, not quite. The Iron Man DVD/BD is due next month, and one of the deleted scenes has been released via /film, via Access Hollywood. It's below. The Ballerina Ballroom Cinema Of Dreams
If I had the time and money I think setting up a film festival would be high on the list of things to do, if I had the time and money. Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton obviously has both time and the cash, as she has set a film festival held in a former bingo hall. I read about this at Hello magazine.

The Dark Knight - Gardner's Take
Hello, and welcome to battleroyalewithcheese - the blog about films and that. We hope to provide you people with news, interviews, gossip, podcasts and anything regarding film.
We're still sorting it all out behind the scenes (Ant and Dave, two of the BRWC team, are incredibly lazy - c'mon boys) but we think it'll be good fun and will run smoothly.
Anyway, below is Gardner's (another BRWC member) bracket-happy take on a little known film called The Dark Knight.
