It's NEVER TOO LATE

An examination of the twists and turns life has to offer, NEVER TOO LATE follows four young people on their search for love, acceptance and happiness. Ethan and Anna are a couple on the verge of taking their relationship to the next level. Chase lacks his own voice and does not know how to pursue what he really wants. Madeline desires to change the world and make it a better place. As a film, NEVER TOO LATE is a character story, focusing on what one has to do to get where they want to be.

More on this film soon...

Underwater Love

Here is the trailer for Underwater Love, out on DVD end of November.  Looks cool as.

A Clockwork Orange

It’s 40 years since Stanley Kubrick shocked the world with ‘A Clockwork Orange’, a milestone that we just had to celebrate at Soundtrack this year. ‘X Banned: A Clockwork Orange’ is a special evening of events in tribute to Kubrick’s cinematic touchstone. Curated by João Serejo and Núria Campreciós, the evening will start with an exclusive exhibition of documents from The Staley Kubrick Archive, including research and promotional materials, press articles and other official files from the time of the film’s release.

Catering On Movie Sets

Any sort of connection or brush with the film or movie industry has a whiff of glamour and celebrity about it. But if you are looking to get into the catering side of the business - that is, providing food and sustenance for those on set - what is this like and what would be involved?

Of course, those in a film crew need food just as much as anyone else and any catering service will usually provide the standard three meals a day, breakfast lunch and supper, together with some snacks especially if the hours of work for the team are particularly long.

Newport Residents Asked To Tell Tales About Their City

The Newport Stories project encourages people to tell a story about the city in less than fifty words and a single photograph. The project, which was launched today, has been created by Ffresh – the Student Moving Image Festival of Wales – and the Newport Film School to celebrate the festival being hosted in Newport for the first time in its 10 year history.

A number of well known Newport residents – including the Leader of the City Council Matthew Evans, and authors Matt Beynon Rees and Paul Manship – have already contributed stories, which are hosted on the project’s website newportstories.tumblr.com.

WARRIOR (2011) Review

Warrior is a different kind of fighting movie for a few reasons. The most obvious change up is that the story centers around not one, but two protagonists, each one desiring to win the final comp and each one with their own reasons why they must. The other change is that it features mixed-martial arts rather then one particular style and this really adds to the intensity of some of the fights and hits in the film. The premise is a simple one: two brothers, separated and divided by current problems and past sins, must fight in a world tournament in order to survive.

Troll Hunter

One of the biggest hits with audiences at this year's Film4 Frightfest and a major critical success during its subsequent UK theatrical release in September 2011, which saw it earning Four Star reviews in Empire ("spectacular fun"), Total Film (" a true one off... it will quite simply blow you away") and Time Out ("shot through with an unexpected, often unsettling, humour"), the horror-comedy Troll Hunter bursts its way on to DVD and Blu-ray on 9th January 2012.

STRAW DOGS COMP!!

Coinciding with its 40th anniversary and with the forthcoming remake, director Sam Peckinpah’s notorious thriller Straw Dogs has been carefully restored and remastered for release on two-disc DVD and for the first time ever as a features-packed Special Edition Blu-ray on 24th October 2011.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 (2011) Review

What can be said about Paranormal Activity 3, that hasn’t been said in a review of 1 or 2? Not a lot, so I will keep this review as short as possible. Looking at the success of Paranormal Activity 1, sequels, prequels, and spin offs were clearly inevitable, particularly looking at it’s budget to profit marker. Made in the tradition of ‘found footage films’ like Blair Witch Project and Cannibal Holocaust, unlike most horror movies of this past decade, Paranormal Activity plays on minimalism.

The Help

This is for Jackie.  Happy Birthday.

Never heard of the novel of the same name before, but it's one I will look at.  The Help is about Aibileen a hardworking housekeeper in 1960s Mississipi, who with the help of local white writer Skeeter Phelan talks about her life as a black servant in a time of extreme racism.

MurderDrome Fake TV Ad Comp!

Look at this!

Study: Paolo Benetazzo Interview

Study is an individualistic and psychological drama by Paolo Benetazzo.  I spoke to Paolo about the film.

So tell me about “Study”.  What is it about?
Study is an independent film which follows a psychology student in the week before his final exam, discovering his life and exploring his mind. Starting on Monday, in the middle of his room, the student tries to study surrounded by his past and his present, obsessed by the concept of life and death, and tortured by the eternal struggle between science and religion. Each day is a distinct representation of how the student’s behavior can be influenced by interpersonal relationships and subsequently by society. His consciousness is revealed through a combination of memories, emotions and motivations in a six-day span, while one day is entirely focused on his unconscious cognitive processes. As the days go by, different people and situations interfere with exam preparation, leading the student to cross the line that separates him from his studies.

Tour of Duty - MUSIC

Coming soon is the DVD release of the groundbreaking war drama Tour of Duty, coming out this year. Set during the Vietnam conflict it has a loyal following but what fans have never been able to enjoy was the show with the original amazing soundtrack intact as rights had never been cleared. Instead people had to make do with replacement music which really detracted from the mix of breathtaking action with thought-provoking drama while addressing the human elements of the conflict, from issues of racism and culture to suicide, drug abuse, the civilian casualties and the alienation of those soldiers who made it home alive.

THE 10 MOST INCREDIBLE INTERVIEWS IN TV HISTORY

Here's one... the rest are here.

Muhammad Ali with Michael Parkinson (1974)

The famous English broadcaster and journalist has stated that Ali was his most memorable interview. At the time, Ali was in his prime, having just recaptured the title after upsetting George Foreman in "The Rumble in the Jungle." Opinionated as ever, he continued to talk trash about Foreman, and discussed more serious matters such as religion and race. It's an excellent display of Ali's intelligence, honesty and acerbic wit.

RE-KILL

Exclusive footage of RE-KILL is now available for all to see!

It’s been 5 years since the outbreak that wiped out 85% of the world’s population, but the war between Re-Animates (Re-Ans) and Humans wages on. Most of the major cities are still uninhabitable. Within the few surviving cities, the Re-Ans have been segregated into "zones" and are policed by the R-Division of the QUASI S.W.A.T. Unit who hunt to re-kill the Re-Ans in the hope of quelling a second outbreak.

The 10 Most Overused Movie Quotes

Here' one of them...

"Say 'what' again!"

Pulp Fiction has some amazing dialogue, no doubt about it. It's Quentin Tarantino's best script (though Roger Avary shares story credit), and it's packed with lines that feel good in any number of situations. But Jules' "Say 'what again!" — actually, most of his entire tirade against Brett — has been overplayed. Such is the power of Samuel L. Jackson's performance. (He does tend to yell a lot.)

Recommended replacement: "Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?" Just as threatening, in its own way, and still pretty cool, but less popular. Make it yours.

DVD - Atrocious

Dir: Fernando Barreda Luna
Scr: Fernando Barreda Luna
Starring: Cristian Valencia, Clara Moraleda, Chus Pereiro, Sergi Martin

2010, Spain, 70 mins

The Blair Witch Project has a lot to answer for and I'll be having words with her later. But for now let's deal with Atrocious. Sorry, I don't know why I'm sounding so aggressive towards this film so quick out the gate. After all "found footage" horror is an entire sub-genre in it's own right these days. It's given us some recent classics like [REC] and some tat like Paranormal Activity (I'm open to a discussion about it's merits or lack of)

Quote Of The Week : Con Air (1997)

"And if you say a word about this over the radio, the next wings you see will belong to the flies buzzing over your rotting corpse !"

Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom (John Malkovich) tells the pilot of a plane exactly what will happen to him if he disobeys his direct order. The directorial debut from Simon West notoriously goes over the top, yet grew a large fan base and became a classic 1990's action picture. Malkovich is a stand out amongst a heavyweight cast at the peak of their careers.

Terra Nova Episode Two Review

*** Warning, large spoilers ahead ***

Terra Nova leaps into its strengths with the third episode of dinosaur madness. Where as the pilot may have been enough to turn most people off following the rest of the series, this episode may be the one that will redeem the show and encourage the audience to invest themselves in the rest of the series.

The one thing that should be said about this episode is that it seems to be more of a hiatus from the main series story arc to focus more on character development, rather than the over all story line. This is by no means a demerit, and it is one of the episodes greatest strengths. When more time is spent on the characters, you find your self more invested in what is going to happen to them and the danger that they’re facing.

Film Review: Shark Night 3D

To call it Shit Night 3D would be too easy, however it would be correct. I've never seen such a low rent, under performed medley of utter tripe. From the word go you couldn't give a monkeys wether these giggling bunch of stereotypes died, got eaten or even just vanished from the film with no explanation. You have, sporty, nerdy, horny, goth, pretty and shy-weirdo-scary eyes-with a past. And they decide that it is a spiffing idea to go off to a posh house party, in the middle of a lake, with no phone signal or internets and weird slightly racist locals. I know right, I was thinking it too. What could possibly go wrong.

So one by one they get eaten. This is where they really let everyone down. You don't, and I will stand by this, go and see a film called Shark Night 3D for the acting, locations, gritty dialogue, the camera work or the existential storytelling that adds a new spin on the concept that is life as we know it. No, you go to see gore, you go because you want to see limbs being ripped, bitten, gouged and pulled all the way off. I wanted buckets of blood splashed everywhere, but there were none. All we get is one arm off and the rest is all hinted at, all out of shot screams and murky water turning red. Quite frankly I felt cheated. Oh, and if you add 3D to the name of your film, make sure you use it...plums.

99 Percent: The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film

99 Percent: The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film is a documentary film project founded by independent filmmakers working in conjunction across the US.  Award-winning directors, producers, editors and cinematographers have come together and pledged their time, skills and gear to document the events taking place in NYC and across America.  And they’re inviting you to do it with them.
As protests have spread across the country, many have complained that the media is failing in their coverage.  Audrey Ewell, a New York filmmaker and one of the founders of the project, says: “It felt like a media blackout.  I was glued to the Globalrevolution Livestream on the day the NYC police arrested hundreds of protesters on the Brooklyn Bridge, as others yelled ‘We’re not the criminals.’  And then the feed went out because whoever was filming ran out of batteries. And it wasn’t being shown on the news. We felt a need to gather footage like this from all over the country and craft a document of the big picture.”

RIP: Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

Hi, I’m a Mac.

I have not always been a Macintosh user, in fact, for a long period of my life I didn’t really even know Apple was still around. In my early teenage years, PC really was the only option. At home and at school, everything was Microsoft. Not that this was a problem, it was just to my mind, there was no other option. However in 2001, Apple made it’s presence known to my existence, loud and clear. I can remember watching the news and seeing this tall and skinny bald man talk in front of hundreds of people holding a tiny device. This thing in his hands looked like a skinny white Gameboy. He called it the iPod and he declared that it was going to change everything. And indeed, it did. iPods became common place in the schoolyard, and later it was hard to get into someone’s car without seeing one hooked up to the stereo or having one supply the background music to a party. As someone who had only recently received a CD-Walkman, I was impressed to say the least.

10 Life-Changing Movie Roles That Actors Turned Down

Here's one...

MICHAEL MADSEN AS VINCENT VEGA IN PULP FICTION

Scheduling conflicts prevented Madsen from accepting the role of Vincent Vega, which was later taken by John Travolta. Madsen was already friends with director Quentin Tarantino, who was extremely pleased with his performance as Mr. Blonde — or Vic Vega, Vincent's brother — in Reservoir Dogs. But Madsen had already committed to the role of Virgil Earp in Wyatt Earp, a film in which he regretted participating.

Mother's Day

Rebecca De Mornay heads a killer cast in Mother's Day in a role the makes her psychotic character from 'The Hand That Rocks The Cradle' look like Mother Theresa!

Loosely based on Charles Kaufman’s 1980 Troma classic, Mother's Day is a nail-biting thriller that has been described as 'intense' (Dread Central) and ' a gruesome pleasure" (The Sun).

10 MOVIE VILLAINS WHOSE ACTIONS WERE TOTALLY JUSTIFIED

Here's one...

Ed Rooney in Ferris Bueller's Day Off

"Save Ferris" became a rallying cry for Ferris Bueller's Chicago suburb (and even a '90s ska band), but no one made banners or T-shirts saying "Give Mr. Rooney a raise." Ed Rooney, the Dean of Students at Ferris' high school, was tasked with the job of making sure students succeed and he takes his job very seriously. He may have had a personal problem with Ferris' attitude, but he wasn't really in the wrong to check in on the high school senior. Truancy is a big problem in the U.S., and those who skip school are more likely to commit crimes. Case in point: Ferris steals his best friend's dad's car after convincing the friend and his girlfriend to also skip school. He certainly sounds like a bad seed. Instead of Rooney being praised for his interest in his students and his dedication to his job, he is villified, attacked by a dog, and beaten up by Ferris' sister.

Paranormal Activity 3 Trailer & Poster

The CATFISH team of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have come aboard PARANORMAL 3. Jason Blum and the original creator Oren Peli are back producing with Steven Schneider and Akiva Goldsman executive producing. Christopher B. Landon, who served as a writer on last year’s hit sequel is back, and so are your sleepless nights.

THEY'RE BACK! BUT FOR BETTER OR WORSE?

HUNG - Season 3
Oh thank you sweet Jesus for HBO and thank you for ‘Hung’. Yes, ‘Hung’ is abut sex, but sex in it’s deepest and truest sense. It’s how sex effects different people, how sex can change people’s lives in the best and the worst ways, how sexuality is rarely black and white, and ultimately, everyone wants and need sex. Thomas Jane and Jane Adams form one of the best leads pairs on television at the moment. It’s witty, it’s fun, it’s dramatic, and it’s very enjoyable. While you might miss some of the back story, Season 3 is heading the pair into a fresh and new direction and really is a great starting point for new comers to jump on, but I do recommend watching the first 2 Seasons highly. ‘Hung’ is one sexy show and boy, am I glad it’s back.
